Let's Learn to Shred!

Are your kids confident on a bike but hesitate to feel comfortableย on dirt and uneven terrain? Whether your kid is transitioning from pavement to dirt, in their "growth year" with a bigger size bike, or just needing a little PUSH from theirย peers to level up, this camp is for you!
Four weeks starting in June!ย
June 5, 12, 19, & 26
Mud Lake Open Space in Nederland
Recommended Ages: 7-10
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
Bike basics & setup
Kids get familiar with their bikeโhow to check brakes, tire pressure, and seat height. They also learn basic maintenance like cleaning and simple adjustments so they feel more in control of their equipment.
Body position & balance
This is foundational. They practice neutral and ready positions (standing slightly off the saddle, knees and elbows bent) so they can absorb bumps and stay stable on uneven terrain.
Braking control
Proper use of front vs. rear brakes is huge. Kids learn how to slow down smoothly, avoid skidding, and stop safely on dirt or loose surfaces.
Shifting gears
Theyโre taught when and how to shift efficientlyโlike gearing down before a hillโso they donโt struggle or lose momentum.
Trail awareness & etiquette
This includes looking ahead, choosing good lines (the smoothest path), and understanding right-of-way rulesโlike yielding to hikers. Programs often emphasize respect for nature and other trail users.
Cornering & turning
Kids practice leaning the bike (not just their body), looking through turns, and controlling speed so they donโt wipe out on curves.
Climbing & descending basics
They learn how to handle hillsโstaying seated and steady when climbing, and shifting weight back slightly when descending to stay balanced.
Obstacle negotiation
Simple skills like rolling over small rocks or roots, lifting the front wheel slightly, and maintaining momentum over uneven ground.
Confidence & decision-making
A big part is knowing when to ride something and when to walk it. Kids learn to assess terrain and make safe choices instead of feeling pressured.
Safety habits
Helmet use, basic trail safety, and leader/sweeper responsibilities
*My classes mix short drills with actual trail riding so kids can immediately apply what they learn.
